Thanksgiving Fun 2007

All three branches of the Lanes got together for Thanksgiving this year, the Minneapolitans, the Raleighites and the Charlotteans. As we picked out these pictures, it occurred to us that we didn't take many traditional "meal pics" this year. But that's okay, playing is much more fun anyway.

Mountain house trip, early November

The Charlotte Lanes join the Raleigh Lanes in Elk Creek for a relaxing mountain house weekend. Like a cross between Grizzly Adams and the Old Man and the Sea, Wilson leads us on a hike along the New River Trail. It's just my kind of trail; it's an old railroad bed, so the slope is very gentle...

Halloween in the Hood, 2007

Wilson was definitely more "into it" this year. Now he knows WHY he's going door to door. Last year, the candies were just colorful bobbles. This year he was throwing elbows to get to the sugar. It was a good time.

A Visit to the Mothership

Recently Wilson took us to see the life-size Thomas train. It was pretty cool.

Last weekend we took Wilson to the annual Festival in the Park in Dilworth. We heard there were going to be trains... Check him out in the back of the second car. He was pretty happy.



Today Wilson got exposed to Fall Festing South Carolina style. It's mostly about farm animals.

East Meck -- Class of 1987 -- 20 Year Reunion!

So it turns out you can go home again, and they have a cash bar!

Danelle and Craig ignored their better judgment and went to their 20th. They were joined by long-time friends Larry Storey and Barckley Toole, who brought his lovely wife Mary Beth. (Boo! Hiss! Mike Smith was a no-show!)

Judging from the pictures we took, we had a great time! Click on the innocent young things above to see the debauchery.

Estelle Whitehurst Lane 1918 to 2007

 

Estelle passed out of this world recently. There was a lovely service held for her at Charity Church, and loads of family time before and after.

Many times, at the death of a loved one, you will learn things about the person you had not known before, from friends and family telling stories. I hope that this posting of pictures of Estelle throughout her life will inspire us to tell those stories here. WAYBACK -- Beautiful October 2006

 

Just a week after the Columbus Day Trip, we Charlotte Lanes headed back to the mountain house to meet up with newlyweds Caryn and Gary Seligman. (You might recognize them from an earlier post here on the 'pickle.) It was another beautiful weekend in Elk Creek.

WAYBACK -- Columbus Day 2006

 

Columbus Day has become a traditional time for the Lane Clan to gather at the mountain house. For us Charlotte Lanes, it offers a non-major-holiday opportunity to catch up with the brood. Always enjoyable.

WAYBACK -- Richard & Amelia's 40th Anniversary

Due to appalling lack of picture posting from September '05 to April '06, there are lots of pics that have not been shared. Thus the WAYBACK series was born. All these postings will be clearly marked, so those not interested in looking backwards can easily skip.



Richard and Amelia's 40th wedding anniversary was August 27, 2006. Lots of friends and family came to congratulate them. I'm terrible with names, so if you spot yourself in these pictures go ahead and shout it out in the comments to each picture.

One potty is not enough...

Some families get together and go bowling. Not the Lanes. We're not happy unless there's a realistic chance of losing a digit. But, for a second potty in the mountain house, I guess that's worth it.

Mountain house with friends

Last weekend we went up to the mountain house with old friends. In attendance were Larry Storey and Mike Smith, and Mike's "lady friend" Kristi.

Part 2: pics by Larry (honestly, much better quality than ours. Check out the fire pics.) I have to admit that I did not get authorization from Mr. Storey. If I get a cease and desist letter, they are coming down...



Part 3: Wilson's musical tastes are pretty advanced for such a young man. Watch him boogie down. (The movie is pretty big, ~37 MB, so it may take a while to load, depending on the speed of your connection.)
