Estelle Whitehurst Lane 1918 to 2007
Estelle passed out of this world recently. There was a lovely service held for her at Charity Church, and loads of family time before and after.
Many times, at the death of a loved one, you will learn things about the person you had not known before, from friends and family telling stories. I hope that this posting of pictures of Estelle throughout her life will inspire us to tell those stories here. Just click on the "comments" link just below these words (and then click on "Post a comment" at the bottom of the page) to tell about a favorite memory or just to let us know you dropped by.
Click on the picture above of Estelle to see more.
(This website, friedpickles.com, is typically used to display pictures of the life and times of Craig, Danelle and Wilson Lane. You're welcome to look around if you're not afraid of overdosing on pictures of Wilson!)
One last thing: I'm trying to spread word of this Estelle posting via email, but I don't have a whole lot of email addresses for our extended family. If you have some of those email addresses, please spread the word by emailing people, or send the addresses to me and I'll do it. (My email address is jlandau@gmail.com) Also, if you have pictures of Estelle you'd like to contribute to the ones here, just let me know, and we'll post them. Also Also, if you know some details about pictures posted here, feel free to share in the comment for each individual picture.
Thanks!

Estelle will always be "Grandma Estelle" to me. To a young grandson, she was an unusual mix of fancy entertainer and shotgun-toting country girl.
Some of my fondest Christmas memories are from celebrations held at Estelle and Rodney's house in Cary. She always had a fantastic Christmas tree with lots of cotton around it for snow, and plastic reindeer grazing around. Though it was probably 65 degrees outside, inside it was winter wonderland. And the shrimp cocktail she would serve at dinner in those crystal(?) goblets always seemed like the height of luxury.
Contrasted with that is the image in my head of Estelle blowing the head off of a moving cottonmouth snake. Seemed like she was a pretty good shot with that thing.
A woman of many talents, our Estelle.
